SRINAGAR, Jun 13 (KNO) : A large numbers of leaders and activists of both Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions under the banner of Teachers Joint Action Committee (TJAC) led by its President and EJAC Chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani were arrested by the police near Civil Secretariat Srinagar and lodged them in the concerned Police Station while staging a peaceful protest demonstration against the state administration regarding the delinking of SSA salaries with state sector and implementation of 7th Pay Commission on SSA teachers and Head teachers.

A large number of protesters on Wednesday assembled in front of Exhibition Complex Srinagar, carried placards and tied black strips on their mouth to show their resentment against the government for not addressing the demands and problems being faced by the SSA teachers and their families are going through tough times given the delay in payment of salaries. Abdul Qayoom Wani while addressing the media said, “We have already rejected the release of SSA teachers’ salaries by the government few days ago at a tune of Rs 142 crores which is without incentives of 7th Pay Commission for which the Jammu and Kashmir Teachers Forum has been struggling till date pertaining to genuine demands of SSA teachers.

SSA teachers are still deprived of 7th Pay Commission at the tune of Rs 16 crores which has not been including in their salaries. We condemn this bias attitude of the state government in this context.” “Unless the state government has not given benefits of the 7th pay commission incentives which are not being provided to them but now same is being denied for reasons known to government. We will not accept this government’s stand till the benefits of 7th Pay Commission incentives are not credited in to the salaries of SSA teachers. Our struggle will remain continue till entire demands and issues are not addressed by the government seriously with playing any politics over the heads of SSA teachers. If government fails to address the issues of SSA Teachers, otherwise the Committee has decided to sit for 24 dharna on June 19 at Sher-e-Kashmir Park Srinagar over the 7th Pay Commission issue, which is being denied to SSA teachers,” he informed.
